Elizabeth Park Fern Street Entrance to Begin Construction this Spring

We are always honored to be designing new site features for Elizabeth Park. Construction of a new gateway entrance on Fern Street is slated to begin this spring. Plans were approved by the Town on West Hartford in September 2019, and a contractor has recently been awarded the project contract.
In 2017, the Elizabeth Park Conservancy developed a Master Plan for the park that will guide future development. One of the priorities of this Master Plan is to improve the gateway and pedestrian corridor at Fern Street to make the park more accessible to neighborhoods located south of Elizabeth Park.
Our design of the improved pedestrian gateway will include a circular granite cobble plaza with an inscribed granite panel reading "Elizabeth Park," curved granite benches, ornamental plantings, and a much-needed bituminous walk that will direct visitors to the famed rose garden. The new gateway plaza was modeled after the Ethel Donaghue Plaza located near the Pond House and will enhance this underutilized area of the park.
