Working with the City of Waterbury and a Vibrant Communities Initiatives Grant from the CT Trust for Historic Preservation, To Design produced a Master Plan for the revitalization of the Waterbury Green, the “Jewel of Downtown.” Working with CDM-Wilbr Smith Associations and Landscape Elements, LLC a comprehensive master plan document included the history of the green, traffic and connectivity issues, utilities, and general improvements to enhance the usability of the assets.
The new plan includes a separation of bus staging areas, plazas, areas for special events including summer concerts and winter ice skating, a memorial plaza for Veteran’s Day celebrations, and a promenade. A focal point of the renovated civic space will be the reinstatement of the double allée of shade trees that once graced the street.
