The Henry Barnard House is one of the oldest structures in Hartford and is listed as a National Historic Landmark, being the former home of the first U.S. Commissioner of Education. Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation now operates the facility, which provides transitional living accommodations to formerly homeless adults, and a day shelter that provides case management, medical services and more than 400 meals a day.
To Design renovated this site in 2010, removing a bulky retaining wall and restoring the property to its former dignity and grandeur. The new design accommodated the needs of Mercy Housing clients in a respectful manner.
