Meet Our Summer Employee

July 7th, 2021

Meet our summer employee Nicole Detora! Nicole just finished her sophomore year in the Landscape Architecture program at UConn!

Nicole took the long way around to Landscape Architecture. Unsure what she wanted to pursue out of high school, Nicole’s passions shifted between art, architecture, engineering, and areas such as nutritional science and lifestyle medicine.

“During my first two years of school, I hopped between chemical and environmental engineering, and while I wasn’t personally fulfilled by any of these disciplines, I don’t regret the classes I took as I think they truly helped me find my path,” Nicole says. “I realized that I was searching for a more creative space to discuss and approach the issues of human land use and interaction.”

When looking through a list of majors one day, Nicole stumbled upon a poster for the Landscape Architecture program.

Calling the program “a too good to be true situation,” Nicole dove into her classes. Phil Barlow was one of her instructors last semester and she took the opportunity to soak up the knowledge he possesses, and is thrilled to be working with and learning from Phil and the rest of the To Design team.

Outside of LA, you can find Nicole hiking, drawing, and listening to music. She also loves to cook, and plans on growing lots of vegetables this summer in her garden.

Join us in welcoming Nicole to the To team! We're excited to be working with her!
