Project Details
Dwight Branch is the oldest of the branches of the Hartford Library, established in 1907 when it was opened in the South School District Building. It was established at the request of the public and named in honor of Henry C. Dwight, who was chairman of the district committee and instrumental in leading the effort. Located at a busy intersection in the heart of the Parkville neighborhood, it connects to the Parkville Elementary School and the Parkville Senior Center.
The award-winning Dwight Branch was designed by Tai Soo Kim Partners and features three glass extensions that beckon visitors from the neighborhood. To Design is proud to have contributed to this project by providing a site design concept that focused on activities and learning for those who live, work and learn in the neighborhood. These site improvements included new concrete walkways, sitting walls, benches and landscape plantings that soften the hardscape and busy intersection.
In December 2012, the newly designed and expanded facility at 7 New Park Avenue celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Pedro E. Segarra, CEO Matthew K. Poland, and other local officials and community leaders. The expansion increases its capacity to 2,200 square feet, allowing the library to increase its scope of programs and services.
